Bucky’s Doubt

  • Material Design

Bucky’s Doubt is a project showcasing the use of manipulating form. Materials used were white and blue clay with red toothpicks. From Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, Bucky talks to Sam about how important Steve’s shield is. It represents Steve, who Bucky believes was the only person who saw Bucky as a good man, despite his past as the Winter Soldier. That shield is the only thing left that has kept Bucky going in the new world. He explains to Sam that abandoning and disrespecting the shield’s legacy means he is not good enough for the world.

People have inner demons and struggles that they face everyday, trying to figure out their worth in the world. However, there is always something or someone that keeps them going throughout the day. The clay represents Bucky’s mind, white is the good memories surrounding blue, which is his self-doubt. The red toothpicks poke through the clay, representing the demons and struggles he still faces.

B: “Why did you give up that shield?”

S: “Why are you making such a big deal out of something that has nothing to do with you?”

B: “Steve believed in you. He trusted you. He gave you that shield for a reason. That shield, that is… that is everything he stood for. That is his legacy. He gave you that shield, and you threw it away like it was nothing.”

S: “Shut up…”

B: “So maybe he was wrong about you. And if he was wrong about you, then he was wrong about me.”
